| Buying And Selling Real Estate > Real Estate Agents > Places in South Africa The Estate Agency Affairs Board (EAAB) was established because the Department of Trade and Industry had become convinced that the self-regulation of the real estate agency industry was not to the benefit of consumers. The Estate Agency Affairs Board provides statutory regulation to maintain and promote the integrity of the real estate agency industry, and consequently the interests of consumers.
The Estate Agency Affairs Board continuously seeks to improve its effectiveness and efficiency and, in so doing, to remain a worthy regulator of the real estate agency industry and consumer protector.
The Estate Agency Affairs Board strives toward efficiency and effectiveness, professionalism, ethics/discipline, quality service, better communication and liaison with the Department of Trade and Industry, honesty, a culture of caring, teamwork, transformation, sound and transparent administration, education, research and public awareness.
The Estate Agency Affairs Board wants to ensure that consumers are fully protected in their dealings with real estate agents and understand their rights, obligations and ethical behavior in their property transactions.
In promoting and maintaining the standard of conduct of estate agents, the Estate Agency Affairs Board also ensure that real estate agents comply with the provisions of the Estate Agency Affairs Act and the real estate agents' Code of Conduct. Thereby, the Estate Agency Affairs Board protects consumers against unethical and unprofessional real estate agents.
