insolvent

An isolvent is a person who has been declared insolvent, or bankrupt, by the court. Being insolvent means that one's liabilities (what one owes) exceeds one's assets (what one owns) and that one is unable to pay one's debts.

A person who is unable to repay his debts and whose estate is declared insolvent in terms of the Insolvency Act 24 of 1936. Also see liquidation.
