Real estate information and articles on all aspects of immovable property in South Africa is available right here. Real South Africans, just like you, can find the answers to their property questions in these pages, or they can take part in the discussions about everything related to South African real estate.
The RealFact.net website was created in order to allow fellow South Africans free access to all the real estate information they may need.
Real Estate Is A Complicated Subject
I've often heard attorneys, real estate agents, property investors and anyone with an opinion on the subject boast that South Africa's real estate title deeds registry is one of the best title deed systems in the world, if not the best. This is very important to ensure that the ownership over immovable property is indisputable, legally binding and truly "as safe as houses". But what seems to evade many people, is the fact that this fantastic title deeds registry is based on copious amounts of intricate legal acts and common law principles.
As soon as another person or party their rights gets thrown into the equasion, a whole lot of other legislation and common-law principles become applicable!
Earning some extra income by letting property to a tenant is a good idea... IF the landlord is informed enough to prepare for the worst while everything is going fine, or preferrably BEFORE they start. For landlords, the name of the game is "Protect Your Assets". They can only achieve this if they have a good knowledge of many of the legal aspects of immovable property in South Africa.
In recent legislation, tenants received valuable and important rights and protection in their relationship with landlords. Both tenants and landlords need to KNOW what those rights and protections are.
South Africa has a history where many South Africans' reasonable and basic rights were either violated or ignored. It is therefore not surprising that new laws place strong emphasis on the protection of the "under-dog". Unfortunately, many South Africans, from all walks of life, have either not seen the need, or were denied the chance, to educate themselves about the laws that affect their lives so intimately.
RealFact would like to play a part in educating the South African public, not only about South African laws that impact on their interactions with real estate, but anything and everything that will help them enjoy their homes and immovble property to the full.
People Want To Be Empowered
Traditionally, property buyers and sellers, and tenants and landlords were content to leave such things as the legal aspects of their real estate in the hands of the legal professionals. But in this age of information and empowerment, a time has come when the man on the street wants to know more about those mystifying rules, procedures, terms and pitfalls that may impact on his/her immovable property.
Many South Africans also only recently became property owners. The RealFact website can be a house- and ownership companion to new homeowners, with the help and advice of the RealFact members and community.
You Have Taken The First Step
We would like to welcome you to the RealFact community, and invite you to take part and help to build this into the one-stop internet resource for EVERYTHING real estate in South Africa. With the help of the many RealFact members we hope to attract and endear to our vision for the real estate industry in South Africa, it is possible to make a difference...
I think it would be wise to state here that the RealFact website is not intended to be a replacement for obtaining legal council from the highly qualified and competent legal practitioners doing such a great job all over South Africa. This should be seen as an ally to attorneys, real estate agents and other professionals in all aspects of the property industry in South Africa, who seek to inform their knowledge-hungry clients about the many aspects of property in South Africa.
